darse cuenta

I just realized today that I am really happy. Maybe it's because the sun came out, but I think it was for a deeper reason. I've been trying really hard to have the right perspective since Black Monday (see May 23rd), and while I don't (and may never) have all the answers, I'm able to let go and appreciate what was. And I'm actually really optimistic for the future.

What I learned this past week: God never leaves you all alone.

Healing is a beautiful thing if you let it be.

Layers

I originally wrote this in my journal, where the personal things go, but I decided to copy it over to here. So if you care to see deeper into my soul, here you go (although I still probably kept it vague enough for a blog):

This morning I had a moment of divine clarity. Thank you, God. I realized that I don’t always like people. I know we should love people, and I think I went through the motions of that for most of my life, but I was quick to judge and criticize, which is detrimental even when done internally. I came to the realization that I didn’t like people when I saw them reflecting my faults and shameful qualities back in my face; it made me want to hide in self-hate, rather than fix it, work it out, change for the better--because this all required discipline and divine help. Has every day of my life been this depressing? No. But this way of thinking has gone on too long in my life. It has impeded a lot of my growth and development into becoming someone of whom I can be proud. Today I was sitting with a group of people with whom I do not normally interact. They were of all ages and paths in life. I heard different people talking, and I was amazed at their insight and wisdom. I was amazed at their dedication and acceptance. Then I realized that I loved these people individually for the whole person each one is, even though we are all a little rough around the edges. It was a brilliant feeling--the light and peace that I was filled with once I had dispelled negativity and pessimism. I felt truly happy. I was able to experience a thread of the love God has for each of His children.

Today I comprehended the meaning of serenity, and it was beautiful.

Emerson, I love you

Life has just been going really well lately.

"That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved. "--Ralph Waldo Emerson

(I'll blog about my love for transcendentalism later...) I feel that this quotation has been becoming true for me. Classes are hard; friends are coming and going; life is up and down and sideways; I still struggle with the same weaknesses, but my ability to make these things strengths has improved--even if it is just a little bit. The things themselves haven't changed, but my attitude and actions have changed.

And it makes life so much better. Try it.

It is a beautiful thing to have the realization that this is your life and you are happy.

haven't had a dream in a long time...

"so for once in my life, let me get what I want. Lord knows, it would be the first time."

I'm understanding more and more want Steven Morrisey meant when he wrote this song.

Anyway, so I realize when I actually have a life and do stuff, I blog less and less. Counterintuitive?

Needless to say, it was a good weekend. That's all I'll say about that.

On a negative point, I have been waking up in anxiety for the past three days. I just wish I could figure this all out.

I love ambiguity.

we'll crucify the insincere tonight

I love postsecret.com (warning: sometimes people send in secrets with objectionable topics or images.)

Anyway, yesterday I told someone all the secrets I've ever had. It was scary and liberating at the same time. The point of postsecret is to show people that we all have human connections beneath our secrets. Letting out our secrets frees us from the walls we build around ourselves. We're too afraid to find out that someone might find out who we really are. Or we let these deep dark secrets define us and bring us down until we realize that we are more than just our flaws and insecurities and bad decisions.

That's what I learned last night.
